DHAKA: Newly elected Awami League lawmaker from Tangail-8 (Basail-Shakhipur) constituency Anupam Shahjahan took the oath on Monday noon.

Speaker of the national parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the oath at her office in the Jatiya Sangshad bhaban around 12:00pm.

Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Mia, Chief Whip ASM Firoz among other was present in the program.

Earlier, EC published a gazette notification declaring him as elected lawmaker.

The constituency fell vacant as Shawkat Momen Shahjahan, father of Anupam Shahjahan, passed away. Later, Awami League nominated Anupam Shajahan as candidate for the seat.

Later, the by-poll of Tangail-8 constituency was held on March 29.
