BAGERHAT: A Bagerhat court on Monday awarded death penalty to three people, including a mother, for their involvement in killing an 18-month child.

The convicts are victim’s mother Latifa Begum, Monir Mollah, son of Ain Uddin and Nazma Begum, daughter of Ain Uddin, all hailed from Nagorkandi village of Mollahat upazila of the district.

District Additional Session Judge SM Solaiman passed the order in the noon.

The court informed during the verdict that the convicts were involved in killing Saheb Ali Dipjol, son of Iku Biswas, residing in Nagorkandi village of the upazila on April 12, 2005.

The case statement said Iku Biswas’s wife Latifa had an extra marital relationship with another convict of this incident and her neighboring Monir Mollah.

Following beating Latifa by her husband over a family feud, she was allegedly killed her child along with other convicts at a certain moment of that night.

The day next, the body of the child was found floating at a pond near their house.

Later, Iku Biswas filed another case of killing on August 29 of that year against Monir Mollah and Nazma Begum.

Mollahat Thana Sub-Inspector, also the Investigation Officer of this murder Nazibul Haque submitted charge sheet on May 10, 2006 them.
