9 more Bangladeshis return home

DHAKA: Nine more Bangladeshis, kidnapped in Iran by several cheating groups, were brought back home on Friday morning.

The fight carrying the victims landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:00am.

The returnees are Tamiz Uddin, Zillur Rahman, Ramij Ali, Mohsin, Sohrab, Hridoy Ali, Sahabuddin, Samar Uddin, and Halim.

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Humayun Kabir confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Humayun said Bangladesh embassy in Iran informed the CID about manpower export cheating there, some 80 victims of cheating were rescued following the investigation with the help of Iranian police, and they will be brought back home in phases.

Some Bangladeshi middlemen took the Bangladeshi expatriates to Saudi Arab, Dubai and Oman, alluring them of lucrative jobs in Greece, Iran and Turkey. The middlemen also assured them that they need not to pay in advance as they can adjust the money from their salaries in phases, he added.

But the middlemen detained them in various remote places in Iran. Then the abductors demanded ransom from the families of the expatriate men in Bangladesh over phone.

The department first came to know about the abduction of the Bangladeshi expatriates through Rights Jessore in 2013, CID sources said.

Earlier, government with the help of a Jessore-based non-government organization Rights brought 12 abducted Bangladeshis back home on April 17.
