NETROKONA: A total of ten persons, including four members of family, were killed in separate incidents due to nor’wester in Kolmakanda, Sadar and Barhatta upazilas of the district early Monday.
The deceased were identified as Afroja Begum, 22, her step son Sagor, 10, Rasel, 7, Rana, 2, of Kalmakanda upazila, Mamun, 12 of Noyonnagar, Soma, 9, of Mohanganj, Ali Munshi, 85 of Kadam Ali Munshi and Emdad, 30 of Barhatta, Dipti Begum, 60, and Ahaler Ma, 50.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Kolmakanda Thana Officer-in-Charge Abdul Karim said that stormy wind blew up the roof of a semi-pucca house after 12:00am and the wall collapsed upon the family members, leaving the four dead on the spot.
The locals said that countless houses were damaged in the nor’wester.
On information, Kolmakanda Upazila Parsad Chairman Fakhrul Islam and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) visited the affected area.
The OC also said a teenaged boy was killed as a tree fell on him as storm lashed Nayannagar village of the same upazila.
