BAGERHAT: Two robbers were killed in a gunfight with the personnel of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Bhadra forest zone of the mangrove forest under Chandpai area of Sundarbans of the district on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as gang chief Dulu and his second-in-command Bachchu.

Acting Operation Officer of RAB-8 Captain Shishir Mahmud Talukder said that, acting on a tip-off, the law enforcers conducted drive in and around the area and cordoned the robbers.

Sensing the presence of the RAB members, the robbers started opening fire targeting the elite force and they also attacked counter around 3:45am, leaving two robbers dead on the spot.

However, RAB personnel held six robbers and recovered nine firearms and explosives from the spot.

RAB officials handed over the detainees to Mongla Thana police.

Officer-in-Charge of Mongla Thana Aminul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
