DHAKA: A female student allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from ceiling fan at her residence in Uttra area of the city on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Rokea Akhter Rumpa, 19, a private university student, daughter of Abdur Rahman of Haluaghat of Mymansingh, who resided at House No-30, Road No-10, and Section No-10 in Uttra with her family.

Rokya’s father Abdur Rhim said, “She (Rokea) went to sleep after having dinner with the family at 10:00pm (Tuesday). In the morning, she was late to wake up even after she was repeatedly being called, later I peeped inside her room through balcony and found her hanging from the fan.”

On information, police recovered the hanging body.

The father could not disclose the reasons behind committing the suicide.

Uttra West Thana Sub-Inspector M Alamgir Hossain told banglanews that the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
