RAJSHAHI: An aged person was killed and 12 others were injured as a thunderstorm rampaged in several places of the district on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Abu Taher, 75, resident of Tickapara area of the district town.

Witnesses said that a thunderstorm and heavy rainfall visited in several places of the district with a wild wind. The storm started around 9:00pm and ended around 9:00pm.

In the affected areas many houses were also blown away or razed to the ground, paddy ready for harvest partially damaged, hundreds of trees uprooted and power lines snapped, locals added.

Assistant Director of Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defense Shawkat Hasan said that two units of fire fighters were deployed to rescue people in the affected areas.

However, some 12 injured were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in this regard.

Sub-Inspector of RMCH Police Outpost Abu Taher confirmed the matter to banglanews.
