NARAYANGANJ: The dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by district Lawyers Association, is underway peacefully in the district on Sunday.
The organization is observing the shut down protesting the killing of seven persons including Panel Mayor Nazrul Islam and lawyer Chandan Sarkar.
All types of vehicles, shops, offices remained closed due to the hartal. Even no rickshaws were seen plying on roads.
Besides, supporting the hartal, various political, social and cultural organizations brought out separate processions at several points of the city.
On Thursday, the Narayanganj district lawyers association called a daylong hartal in the district for May 4 protesting the killing of Chandan Sarkar.
Later, BNP and its aly Jamaat-e-Islami lent support to the hartal to protest against the abduction and murder of seven people.
Chandan Sarkar, along with six people including Narayanganj City Corporation Councilor Nazrul Islam, also panel mayor, were abducted from district court premises on last Sunday.
Later on Wednesday, their decomposed bodies were found floating at the Shitalakhya River in Bandar Upazila of the district.
