DHAKA: Unicef has invited news, articles, features items on children issues run by print or electronic media from Bangladeshi citizens to compete in the Meena Media Award 2014.
Introduced in 2005, Meena Media Award has stepped the ten year in 2014. The award recognizes excellence in promoting children’s issues in the media.
Submission are solicited from Bangladeshi citizens working with both print and broadcast media in two different age groups: Under-18 and 18 & above. News, articles, features published in print media and programmes broadcast by radio and television that investigate and explore children’s issues to improve the lives of children in Bangladesh, or provide healthy entertainment for children are eligible to compete for the award.
Entries are invited in the following six catergories:
Print Media - Reports (news reports, investigative reports, post editorials)
Print Media - Creative (articles, features, stories, poems)
Television - Reports (news reports, investigative reports)
Television -Creative (features, documentaries, short film, plays, songs)
Radio 5050- Report (news reports, investigative reports)
Radio 5050- Creative (features, documentaries, radio dramas, songs)
For all categories prizes are:
Frist Prize: A Crest, certificate and Taka 50,000
Second Prize: A Crest, certificate and Taka 25,000
Third Prize: A Crest, certificate and Taka 15,000
Following conditions have to be met to be eligible for the award:
• Entries should have been published/broadcast in Bangladesh between May 1, 2013 and April 30, 2014.
• One copy of the original material as published/broadcast and 2 additional copies have to be submitted.
• Inside the envelope please provide the following information:
- Date of Birth: please attach a valid proof such as Birth Certificate, SSC Certificate or National ID card
- Age as on the day the entry was published/broadcast
- Direct phone number that will be valid for at least until December, 2014
- Name, designation, direct phone number, e-mail of a contact in the newspaper or television who can certify the validity of
• On top of the envelope following information must be written clearly or else the entry will be disqualified: Meena Media
Award 2014- [Age group] - [Category]. Example: Meena Media Award 2014- Under-18 - Television - creative
• The finalists only will be contacted by UNICEF. Unsolicited call will not be entertained and may lead to disqualification.
• There is no limit for an individual to submit the number of entries but only one will be awarded if more are shortlisted.
• UNICEF reserves the rights to make all the decisions regarding all stages of this award.
Entries should be published/broadcast between May 1, 2013 and April 30, 2014.
