DHAKA: The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) claimed that GDP target in upcoming budget may decrease and it would remain under six percent.

The CPD made the assertion at a media briefing at its budget recommendations for fiscal year 2014-15 at BRAC Inn Centre in the city on Sunday.

Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, distinguished fellow of the CPD, said, “We fear that GDP growth will decease less than six percent in the upcoming budget as it was increasing by one percent every fiscal year.”

He claimed that the cause behind the GDP fall due to decrease of investment flow in recent days.

Debapriya said the country would not get rid of the prevailing economic recession unless it gets back on a participatory political and electoral process.

Some recent non-economic concerns like security of assets and lives have further affected investors’ confidence, which forced investors to stay their big investment plans, he added.

CPD urged the government not to take financial facilities by giving chance to turn the black money into white.

Dr Fahmida Khatun, research director of the CPD, presented research paper of the budget.

CPD executive director Professor Mustafizur Rahman and additional research director Dr Khandaker Moazzem Hossain were among others present at the press meet.
