Workers’ leader killed, bus services halted

JHENAIDAH: A top leader of district transport workers union was chopped to death by miscreants in Arappur area of the district town early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Gaffar Biswas, 43, general secretary of Jhenaidah Bus-minibus workers union.

Sadar Thana Sub-Inspector Shahriar Rahman told banglanews, “Miscreants attacked him with lethal weapon around 4:00am, leaving him critically injured.”

Later, he was rushed to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital where doctor declared him dead.

On the other hand, following the incident agitating workers stopped all type of bus-minibus services from 8:00am which created immense passenger sufferings.

Confirming the matter, Sadar Thana Officer-in-Charge Shahbuddin told banglanews, “He might have been killed over workers’ union dispute.”
