UK govt’s attention drawn about expat’s disappearance

DHAKA: Family of an expatriate Bangladeshi requested the British government to assist for rescuing the Bangladeshi who disappeared from his home district of Sunamganj.

The family asked the UK government for “diplomatic pressure on

Bangladesh” so that Dhaka takes highest measures to find out Mujibur Rahman, a British citizen and leader of the UK unit of BNP.

While staying in Bangladesh for last few months, Mujibur Rahman disappeared after attending a gathering of BNP in Sunamganj on Sunday.

“We gave separate letters to the office of the UK Prime Minister as well as Foreign and Commonwealth Office,” Mansur Rahman, son-in-law of disappeared Mujibur Rahman, told journalists in London.

He informed that London Metropolitan Police have also been informed about the disappearance of Mujibur Rahman, a dweller of London.

Worried about Mujibur’s disappearance, Bangladeshi Caterers Association (BCA) in London wrote to different offices of the UK government as well as the high commission.

BCA President Pasha Khandakar confirmed that the letters were sent to the concerned offices.

Besides, a group of expatriate Bangladeshis in London held a meeting with the Anne Main, MP, the Co-chairman of All Party Parliamentary Group on Bangladesh of the British Parliament.

Expatriate Bangladeshi Mujibur Rahman had been staying in Bangladesh before January 5 elections, boycotted by his party BNP, but playing active role in BNP politics in Sunamganj.
