N’ganj victims’ families giving statement

NARAYANGANJ: Administrative investigation committee will organize a mass hearing over the sensational 7-murder case in Narayanganj on May 12 and 15.

Shahjahan Ali Mollah, chief of the probe committee formed in accordance of High Court order, told banglanews that a circular has been published on Saturday about the mass hearing to be held at Narayanganj deputy commissioner office.

Earlier in the day, the committee recorded the deposition of family members of slain Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and six others at additional deputy commissioner Mahmudur Rahman’s office from 11:00am. 

At first, slain panel mayor Nazrul Islam’s wife, brother and father-in-law gave their statements.

Later, the probe body recorded the deposition of family members of slain Moniruzzaman Swapan, Advocate Chandan Sarker, Tazul Islam, Sirajul Islam Liton, Jahangir and Ibrahim. 

 On May 5, the High Court ordered the government to form a committee for an overall investigation following allegations on involvement of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the crime.

On May 7, the government formed the committee, headed by additional secretary at the public administration ministry Shahjahan Ali Molla, to investigate into alleged involvement of RAB and whether the administration and law enforcers were in any negligence in preventing the killings.

On April 30, Narayanganj City Corporation Councilor Nazrul Islam, senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker and five others were found dead floating on River Shitalkkhya after 3-day of their abduction.
