Mass hearing on 7-murder begins

NARAYANGANJ: The mass hearing over the sensational 7-murder case is underway at Narayanganj circuit house from Monday morning as part of investigation into alleged involvement of law enforcement agencies’.

The Administrative investigation committee, formed in accordance of High Court order, started recording the hearing from 10:00am.

Witnesses of adduction and body recovery incidents, also interested one, can give deposition before the probe body.

Earlier the mass hearing was scheduled to be held at Narayanganj deputy commissioner’s office. But on Sunday, in an advertisement, public administration ministry said the hearing is to be held at district circuit house.

In the release, probe committee member secretary, also public administration ministry deputy secretary Abul Kashem Mohammad Mohiuddin requested people interested to appear before the committee on pre-scheduled time.

Earlier on Saturday, the seven-member committee recorded the deposition of family members of slain Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and six others at additional deputy commissioner Mahmudur Rahman’s office. 

On May 5, the High Court ordered the government to form a committee for an overall investigation following allegations on involvement of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the crime.

On May 7, the government formed the committee, headed by additional secretary at the public administration ministry Shahjahan Ali Molla, to investigate into alleged involvement of RAB and whether the administration and law enforcers were in any negligence in preventing the killings.

On April 30, Narayanganj City Corporation Councilor Nazrul Islam, senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker and five others were found dead floating on River Shitalkkhya after 3-day of their abduction.
