DHAKA SOUTH: A group of agitated people blocked the Dhaka-Mawa highway and torched a police van in front of Jhil Mil residential project under Keraniganj upazila of the district on Friday.

The locals of the area showed their protest against the road accident of Sreenagar upazila earlier in the day, where two people were killed including a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver.

The agitated people claimed that the law enforcers intercepted the auto rickshaw and signaled with torch at the eyes of the driver on Thursday night.

While the driver trying to stop his vehicle, a rashly driven truck rammed into it, leaving him dead on the spot, they added.

Protesting the accident, the locals blocked the highway in the area and facing obstruction, they torched a police van, said police sources.

However, finally, police brought the situation under control and the movements of the vehicles became normal.

Officer-in-Charge of South Keraniganj Thana Mir Jamaat Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.
