Voting in 2 centers postponed

COMILLA: The voting in two centers was postponed in Comilla Sadar South upazila of the district on Monday morning.

The centers are- Chayabitan Primary School of Durgapur Union and Afjal Khan Commerce College.

Confirming the matter, Comilla District Election Officer Rashedul Islam told banglanews, following a clash between Awami League and BNP-Jamaat, voting in the two centers declared postponed. 

Local sources said that Awami League and Shibir activists locked into clash around 8:00am in front of Durgapur Union Didar Model High School. Meanwhile, six cocktails were blasted in the area, leaving three people injured.

Besides, Awami League activists and BNP-Jamaat activists locked into clash outside of Daulatpur Chayabitan primary school vote center.

Following the matter Sub-Inspector Harunur Rahsid told baglanews, “A clash took place, but I can’t say anything more in this matter.”

Later, Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Army were deployed in the area. 

Presiding Officer Abdul Halim Arif told banglanews, “Some miscreants entered into voting booth and attacking me snatched ballot papers.”

There are around 56 polling centers where some 172,595 voters are casting their votes in six unions of Comilla Sadar upazila.
