MBEC to construct Padma Bridge Communications Minister Obaidul Quader

DHAKA: Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Monday said the construction work of main part of much-talked-about Padma Bridge would start within three weeks.

A Chinese company named China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC) got the responsibility of constructing the bridge.

The communications minister made the disclosure in a discussion meeting at ruling Awami League president Dhanmondi political office around 5:30pm.

China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC), placed the 12th among the largest and best 500 construction enterprises in China, evolves from former Major Bridge Engineering Bureau, Ministry of Railways after the ownership reform. 

It is a state designated first grade construction enterprise that comprises scientific research, survey and design, construction, machinery making and bridge manufacture, construction supervision.

It possesses a Top-Level License for General Contracting in Construction Projects. 

The MBEC mainly specializes in the scientific research, survey and design, construction, supervision for all kinds of bridges, highways, harbor and seashore projects, city light railways, water irrigation, buildings as well as manufacture of engineering machinery, drilling equipment, pre-cast concrete products, huge steel structure making while engages ship making and repairing, transportation, leasing, facility and structure erection, and the relative technical consultation and engineering supervision.

The MBEC installed the piles of world’s longest cable-stayed bridge, 2,680km (main span) JiaShao Bridge in China.

The MBEC provided 78 percent design service and undertook 52.5 percent construction work of Hangzhou Bay Bridge of China, the longest sea-crossing bridge in the world.
