30 Bangladeshis held at Benapole

JESSORE: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained 30 Bangladeshis, including nine women and six children, from Putkhali frontier at Benapole on Monday.

They were detained between morning to noon while were trying to cross the border to India.

Benapole Port Thana Officer-in-Charge told banglanews that a BGB team raided the area and nabbed 15 men, nine women and six children illegally crossing over with help of traffickers.

“They have been sent before the court, the day same,” OC added.

Lieutenant Colonel Majharul Islam, commanding officer of BGB 23 Battalion told banglanews that the traffickers however managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of law enforcers.

The victims hailed from different areas of Jessore, Khulna, Narail, Faridpur and Bagerhat districts, he added.

However, around 300 Bangladeshis use this route to cross the border everyday on average.

A total of 400 people were detained by BGB till May 19.
