Writ filed to HC to cancel system

DHAKA: A writ petition was filed with the High Court (HC) on Monday seeking directives upon the government for not importing duty free cars for the lawmakers.

Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond submitted the plea praying the court to issue a rule upon the government seeking explanation on why the decision to import duty free cars for the members of parliament should not be declared illegal.

Terming it immoral in the petition, Eunus said the   lawmakers are not influent by any personal interest.

They formulate laws but they cannot press burden of tax on the general people by importing the duty free cars.

A HC bench comprising Justice Quazi Rezaul Hoque and ABM Altaf Hossain will hear the petition on Tuesday.

The secretaries to ministries of finance and communications and cabinet and chairman of National Board of Revenue were made respondents to the rule.
