DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday inaugurated the operation of Machine Readable Passport (MRP) in 33 regional passport offices.

The premier opened the operation through a video conference from Ganabhaban in the afternoon.

Additional Director General of Bangladesh Immigration and Passport Directorate Mohammad Siraj Uddin said, “The government has taken initiatives to establish passport office in 64 districts.”

As a part of the initiatives, they have established 37 passport offices in 34 districts. The rest will be complete soon, he added.

The operations of the newly established offices will begin by this year.

Siraj Uddin hoped that this new operation of MRP in regions will strengthen more the activities of passport offices.
