Road crashes kill 5 in 2-dist

DHAKA: Five people were killed and 21 others injured in separate road crashes in Rangpur and Magura districts on Wednesday morning.

Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Banglanews Rangpur correspondent reports: Three passengers were killed and injured 15 others in a road accident on Kurigram reginal highway in Kawnia upazila of the district on Wednesday morning. 

Witnesses said a Kurigram-bound passenger bus of Shyamoli Paribahan collided head-on with a truck in the area, leaving two dead on the spot and injured others.

Later, another succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at hospital.

Officer-in-charge Abdul Laif of Kawnia thana confirmed the matter to banglanews.

The condition of eight others is critical, said hospital sources.

Magura correspondent reported: two persons were killed and six others injured in road accidents in Ichhakada and Kachhundi areas of the district on Wednesday.

Magura highway police Sub inspector Mashiur Rahman told banglanews that a passenger bus hit a stationed truck and then plunged into roadside ditch, as its driver lost control over the steering at 6:00am, leaving four injured.

The injured were taken to Magura Sadar Hospital where duty doctor declared two of them dead.

Critically injured Setu, 23, four year student of Jagannath University, has been shifted to Dhaka for better treatment.

Besides at the same time, tour people, including a local businessman and his driver, were injured as their private car turned turtle in Kachhundi area under Sadar upazila of the district.

The injured were admitted to Magura Sadar Hospital, said Emergency unit medical officer Amor Proshad Biswas.
