DHAKA: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) cannot threaten Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), commented Shushanar Janniya Nagorik (Shujan) secretary Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar.
Majumdar was addressing a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Thursday.
He said that the anti-corruption body can neither threaten nor harass people.
The organization secretary demanded the government to restructure election commission with qualified, respectable and non-partisan people.
He also demanded the authorities concerned to establish local government commission aiming to free government organizations from bureaucratic harassment.
Majumdar opposed holding local government elections non-partisan.
According to him, the local election under party banners will create conflicts.
He said that ruling party candidates will try to influence election by different means.
Earlier on Wednesday, ACC commissioner M Sahabuddin at an anti-graft award distribution ceremony questioned TIB’s source of income as well as it sectors for expenditure.
The commissioner also threatened to unmask the Germany-based corruption monitoring organization Transparency International’s Bangladesh chapter.
