FROM HOTEL ABAKASH: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) commissioners have been appointed on political consideration, alleges Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).

Case filling, withdrawal and investigation also influenced by government, added the international corruption watchdog's Bangladesh unit in a research report.

The remarks came in a research report titled 'National Integrity Strategy: Implementation Progress' which was revealed in a press conference in Hotel Abakash at 11 am Thursday.

D. Iftekharuzzaman, Executive director of TIB, said the results came according to the research.

On Wednesday, ACC Commissioner Md Shahabuddin raised question about transparency of TIB saying that "TIB officials do research sitting in Air-conditioned office with foreign fund. How much of it they spend on research?"

Day after the ACC criticism, TIB expressed doubt about transparency of ACC commissioners’ appointment.

When queried about transparency of using foreign fund, he said ‘Our income and expenditure report also attached in our website”.

The report was read out by Shammi Laila Islam and Sadhan Kumar Das of TIB Research and Policy Department.

Former caretaker government adviser and TIB trustee board member M Hafiz Uddin khan also present in the programme.
