BGP-BGB exchange fire on border

BANDARBAN: Myanmar Border Police (BGP, former NASAKA) exchanged fire with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Naikkhangchari frontier of the district on Friday.

The gunfight started around 3:00pm near 52-international piller area at Panchhari border after BGP denied handing over body of a BGB member, whom they shot dead on Wednesday after abducting.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Bandarban’s Police Super Devdas Bhattacharya said that no casualties were reported immediately though the gunfight lasts for 2-hour.

Tension mounting on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border since Wednesday night after Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) opened fire at BGB patrol teams at a Rohingya refugee camp near the border.

After the incident, a BGB trooper, Nayek Md Mizanur Rahman, hailed from Velanagar village under Mohanpur union of Comilla, was reported missing.

Naikkhangchari Thana in-charge Rafiqul Islam said that the BGB man died later in this incident and a case has been filed with his Thana in this connection.
