Owners issue ultimatum

DHAKA: The agitating students of Jahangirnagar University seized three buses of Hanif Paribahan from the main gate of their campus on Sunday afternoon protesting of the killing of a student in road crash and beating them.

Besides, Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners Association issued an ultimatum for returning back the buses within an hour.

The association general secretary Kafil Uddin said they would call an indefinite strike if their demand is not met in time.

On May 21, a female student of anthropology department of the university was killed with a pick-up van.

Students also alleged that a university bus was attacked at city’s Gabtali area on May 24.

An association leader Salauddin also claimed that the students attacked and vandalized vehicles just after the accident in the area.

Moreover, students refused the proposal for a negotiation in this regard, he added.
