Mobarak verdict any day

DHAKA:  A special tribunal will pronounce any day the verdict of sacked Awami League leader Mobarak Hossain, for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during liberation war as arguments of both sides completed Monday.

Three-member International Crimes Tribunal-1 led-by Justice M Enayetur Rahim on Monday said the case is kept on CAV [Curia Advisari Vult, a Latin legal term meaning verdict would be delivered anytime.

On May 18, 19 and 21 and today prosecutors Syed Haidar Ali and Sahidur Rahman placed argument before the court against Mobarak.

On April 23, International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 framed charge against former Jamaat and expelled Awami League leader Mobarak Hossain bringing five allegations of war crimes.

The five charges against Mobarak Hossain include- killing 33 people in AKhaura, torturing Ashu Ranjan Deb in Rajakar Camp, abductions and killings. 

On March 22, the tribunal took the war crime charges into cognizance against the ex-ruling party leader. 

On February 25, the prosecution submitted formal charge against Mobarak.

On January 24, the ICT investigation team of the case submitted the 294-page final probe report to Prosecution.

The investigation agency said they found evidence supporting allegations of his involvement in genocide and crimes against humanity.

Investigation officer Shyamal Chowdhury started the investigation on July 16 last year and completed on January 22 this year. 

On May 3 in 2009, Khodeja Begum, daughter of martyr Abdul Khalek, who was allegedly killed by Mobarak during the Liberation War, filed a case with Brahmanbaria Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.

Later, the case was transferred to tribunal.

On July 16 last year, Mobarak got bail from the tribunal for second time in the case.
