DHAKA: National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reforms/Reorganisation (NICAR) on Monday gave approval to the proposal of forming two new upazilas, two municipalities and a thana.

The approval came from the 109th meeting of NICAR with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Additional Secretary to the cabinet division NM Ziaul Alam confirmed the matter.

Guimara Thana of Khagrachhari and Osmaninagar Thana of Sylhet were approved to be promoted as upazilas while a municipality each to Debaganj upazila Sadar of Panchagarh and Nazirhat of Fatikchhari in Chittagong were approved.

NICAR also gave approval to the proposal of promoting Chandraganj police investigation centre of Laxmipur Sadar to Thana.
