DHAKA: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman M Badiuzzaman said it would investigate the involvement of former state minister for liberation war affairs ministry Tajul Islam.

The investigation will also include other officials for their alleged involvement in the Liberation War Honorary Crest scam.

The anti-graft came up with the assertion while addressing a press briefing at his office in Segun Bagicha in city on Tuesday noon.

In response to a question, the ACC chief said, “As the anti-graft body gave some names in their report, we have decided to investigate the financial irregularities of the crest scam.”

He also told the journalists that, after the meeting of ACC on Monday, a two-member probe committee was formed to investigate into the irregularities.

The committee members include it deputy director Mirza Zahidul Alam and assistant director Sheikh Abdus Salam.

Earlier, the government honored 338 foreign individuals and organizations with crests for their contributions to the country’s war of independence.

The scandal triggered huge outcry, after the media reported that the BSTI in 2012 found each crest had only 2.363 grams of gold and 466.237 grams of brass.

Each of those was supposed to contain 22.5 grams of gold and 339 grams of silver.
