Progress report on probe in afternoon

DHAKA: The Administrative probe committee, formed under directive of the High Court to investigate into seven murders in Narayanganj, is set to submit progress report on investigation to the High Court on Wednesday afternoon. 

Besides, progress reports on investigation conducted by RAB, police and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will be placed before the court at the time.

In response to plea of deputy attorney general ASM Nazmul Haque on Wednesday morning, a HC bench of Justice M Reza-ul-Haque and Juctice Gobinda Chandra Thakur fixed the time.  

Earlier on Monday, Deputy Secretary of Public Administration Ministry Mizanur Rahman Khan, also committee member, submitted the progress report to the Attorney General office.

After submission of the report, Mizanur Rahman said they recorded deposition of 321 witnesses and final reports will be submitted within four weeks.

On April 27, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates, driver, senior lawyer of the Narayanganj District Judge’s Court, Chandan Kumar Sarker, and his driver were abducted from Narayanganj city.

Three days after their abduction, the bodies of six people, including Nazrul and Chandan, were recovered from the Shitalakhya River on April 30. Besides, the body of Jahangir, the car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the Shitalakhya on May 1.
