DHAKA: Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) executive director Dr Iftekharuzzaman on Wednesday said the most terrible corruption problem of the country in the land sector. An overview
He said a research conducted in 2012 showed 59 percent people of the country are victims of irregularities and corruption. This makes a loss of Tk 2,710 crore.
The irregularities are found in land leasing and survey, he added.
The TIB official said while addressing a roundtable meeting on land management on Wednesday morning at CIRDAP auditorium in city.
He said there are multiple pressures on our landmass. It faces the pressure of housing to meet the demands of increasing number of population, infrastructure development works and industrialization.
According to him, land aggressions are happening both from public and private sectors. Influential people occupy land with firearms. Political goodwill is needed to stop corruption.
The discussion was jointly organized by several NGOs including USS (Nilfamari), SKS (Gaibandha), BD and BSDO (Naogaon), Mukti Nari (Kushtia) and USS (Khulna).
