DHAKA: Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said the main construction works of the much-talked-about Padma Bridge will begin this month.

“Meanwhile, China Major Bridge Engineering Company Limited was given work order to start the main construction works of the bridge thorough an international tender,” she said.

The premier also told the House the company promised to us that they would build the bridge involving Tk 12,133 crore. For this reason, we gave them the construction works.”

Sheikh Hasina, also ruling Awami League president, made the disclosure while addressing parliament in response to a written question from independent lawmaker Dr Rustom Ali Farazi.

She also told the parliament the bridge would be built by the own finance of the government.
