DHAKA: The first namaz-e-janaza of veteran journalist Mahbubul Alam, also former advisor of caretaker government, will be held at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Asar prayer on Friday.

Body of the former editor of 'The Independent' has been taken to his younger brother’s Gulshan-2 residence, said Ahsan Kader, one of his relative.

Later Mahbubul Alam’s body will be taken to “The Independent’ office. From there, after his second Namaj-e-Janaja his his body will be taken to the national Press Club premises for third Namaj-e-Janaja.

Later, Mahbubul Alam’s body will be kept in United Hospital’s cold storage for his wife and three daughters, who are living in the United States, arrival.

They will decide about burying this veteran journalist, who died at Birdem Hospital in the city on Friday morning at the age of 78.

Mahbubul Alam breathed his last at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital around 9:20am.

He was on life support at the hospital for the last three days.

The senior journalist was born in Munshiganj district in 1936 and started his journalism career in 1953.

He left behind his wife, three daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
