SC stays HC bail to accused

DHAKA: Supreme Court Appellate Division stayed High Court order that gave bail to Sadman Yasir Mahmud, an accused of Blogger and Gana Jagaran Mancha activist Rajib Haider murder.

Passing the order Wednesday, Chamber Judge Hasan Faiz Siddiqui asked Sadman to surrender before court within two weeks.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved for the state while lawyer BM Ilias Kochi was in favor of the accused in the hearing.

Earlier, North South University BBA student Sadman Yasir Mahmud was released after High Court granted him bail on June 1.

Rajib, an architect by profession, was hacked to death on February 15 last year near his house at capital’s Mirpur.

Later, police told media that Sadman was in front of Rajib’s house when the murder took place.

They arrested five NSU students on March 2 last year in connection with the killing.

They are-- Faisal Bin Nayeem alias Dip, 22, Maksudul Hassan Anik, 26, Ehsan Reza Rumman, 23, Nayeem Sikder Irad, 19 and Nafis Imtiaz, 22.

Later Sadman was arrested on August 14.
