DHAKA: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam forewarned that action would be taken against those using formalin and carbide in fruits. 

The spokesperson of DMP came up with the remarks in a press briefing at DMP Media Center on Friday.

Monirul Islam said, “DMP has taken elaborated initiatives against formalin and operating special drives to check the stocks of fruits and imposed further monitoring against contamination of formalin in fruits.”

He added that the law enforcers conducted special drives at eight entrance points of the capital and checked some 1,286 vehicles in last 24-hour.

Some 114,000-Kg mangoes, 31,760-Kg rose apples, 562,155 Litchis and other fruits, which were contaminated with formalin, were seized and destroyed. 

21 cases were filed against the dishonest businessmen and Tk 50,500 was fined in these connections.

He also claimed that a group of evil businessmen has already increased the price of their fruits. They should have brought the price in an appropriate manner shortly, he added.

DMP Joint Commissioner (Operation) Rezaul Karim, Deputy Commissioner of Media Center Masudur Rahman among others were present there.
