DHAKA: The namaz-e-janaza of eminent philosopher, columnist, writer and educator Sarder Fazlul Karim was held after Johar prayer on Sunday.

Many distinguished persons, relatives, friends and admirers attended the janaza held at the Central Mosque premises of University of Dhaka.

Family sources told banglanews that Sarder Fazlul Karim would be laid to rest at the Azimpur Graveyard in the afternoon.

Earlier, his body was kept at the Bangla Academy premises, where he worked for a long time, following the office of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Mukti Bhaban.

Former Dhaka University teacher Sarder Fazlul Karim passed away early on Sunday at a hospital in Dhaka due to old age complications.

President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in separate messages offered sympathy to the bereaved family.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor and Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, a professor emeritus of University of Dhaka, also expressed their condolence at the death.
