FROM JATIYA SANGSAD: Bifurcated Dhaka City Corporations (North and South) have some Tk 195.43 crore due for municipal taxes.
Of the total amount, South has Tk 60.52 crore due while the North has Tk 135.91 crore municipal tax due. These include residential and business taxes.
Local Government Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Syed Ashraful Islam made the disclosure while addressing parliament in response to question from independent MP Hazi M Selim on Monday.
The ruling Awami League spokesperson told the House they could not collect the taxes from Bangladesh Railway, National Sports Association, Dhaka WASA, Holy Family Hospital, RAJUK and Public Health Hospital among other organizations as they filed several cases in the court.
The bill books were sent to all holdings to pay the dues.
The authorities concerned announced on microphone, distributed leaflets and published notices in newspapers. As the final step, they are collecting tax crocking the property.
