CHITTAGONG: A Chittagong court Wednesday issued an arrest warrant against the owner of Bayezid Steel Mill Ltd Abu Bakkar Chowdhury and Rupali Bank Bayezid Bostami branch former manager Delwar Hossain.
Metropolitan session judge SM Mujibur Rahman issued the order after accepting the charge-sheet in the case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for not responding to a notice of ACC for embezzling Tk 77 lakh.
ACC Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Mahmudul Haque told banglanews that Bayezid Steel Mill Ltd owner Abu Bakkar Chowdhury, who had banking relations with Rupali Bank’s Bayezid Bostami branch, took loans from the bank several times.
“They took a total amount of TK76,41,858 from the bank but did not pay,” he said.
Later on December 30, 2013, ACC bureau official filed a case with Bayezid Bostami Thana against them for embezzlement of bank money, he added.
He said that both of the accused are now fugitive.
