DHAKA: A businessman filed a case against two Dhaka Metropolitan Police officers, including Ramna Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) M Moshiur Rahman, on charges of extortion on Sunday.
The plaintiff, Zakir Hossain Chudhury, lodged the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court of Dhaka making New Market Thana Sub-Inspector (SI) Jamal Hossain as another accused.
Metropolitan Magistrate M Mizianur Rahman took cognizance of the charges and asked for judicial investigation following the recording of the plaintiff’s statement.
According to the case statement, the OC called the plaintiff to the former’s office on June 3 amid the plaintiff were undergoing remands in the two ‘false’ cases with Ramna Thana.
Then the OC beat the plaintiff and demanded Tk 2 lakh as extortion threatening him to put under crossfire. The SI--another accused in the case--was present at the spot.
Later, the OC asked Zakir’s wife for the money and the woman gave Tk 2 lakh to the OC to save her husband’s life.
The plaintiff was released on bail on June 10 and filed the case Sunday.
