‘Police not involved in ‘contract killing’

DHAKA: Dhaka Metropolitan Police is not involved in ‘contract killings’, commented DMP commissioner Benazir Ahmed.

He commented during an anti-formalin campaign in city’s Motijheel area Monday.

The DMP commissioner remarked on the killing of two Shramik League leaders in ‘crossfire’ by Detective Branch of police in Motijheel on Sunday.

Families of the leaders blamed police for this killing.

According to the DMP commissioner, the murdered leaders used to earn money illegally and their families were maintained with this. Many allegations were filed against them.

He commented that no one will get chance to escape after shooting at the police. It will also not be allowed if somebody shoots at the general people.

Benazir Ahmed inaugurated an anti-formalin campaign, sponsored by Al-Arafa Islami Bank. After the inauguration, he told media that a mass awareness has been created among the city dwellers regarding formalin.

He claimed that the number of vehicles with formalin-contaminated fruits entering into Dhaka has decreased as police check-posts are working in eight gateways to the city.
