DHAKA: The promises by World Bank (WB), the world leading money lender, has been increased for many development projects of Bangladesh but in the same time money disbursement rate have been decreased.
This was found by information analysis provided by Economic Relations Division (ERD).
The ERD information revealed that in the fiscal year 2014-14, WB gave promises TK88,444.15 crore more than from fiscal year 2012-13 and disbursed money was TK4,012.22 lakh less than from previous year.
Economists forecasted that in the upcoming days the World Bank will boost its economic promises and in the meantime, it will also decrease the credit disbursement.
WB has decreased the credit flow as Bangladesh failed to implement most of the projects.
In 2012-13 FY, Bangladesh had signed five loan and five donation agreements worth Tk 54,188.12 crore and disbursed money was around Tk52,447 crore.
ERD additional secretary Arastu Khan said World Bank has increased the promises owing to some big projects which was absent in last four to five years.
He hoped in upcoming days WB will increase it promises more.
Regarding lower money disbursement, he said it may be happened.
Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) Research Director Jayed Bakht said World Bank has decreased its money disbursement due to poor implementation of its projects.
He suggested utilizing the pipeline’s money and said promises given by the World Bank is positive for country’s economy.
