DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked communications ministry officials to plan roads construction considering the vehicular movement per second.

Not only construction, but also maintenance costs will have to be included in the detail plan, she added.

So, plan-programs should be done considering the flow of vehicles each second, the premier asked the officials on Sunday during her visit to communications ministry.

She came to the secretariat as a part of her regular visits to the ministries aiming to revamp the development works.

There is no alternative of modern communication system to develop the country. Her government keeps sufficient budget allocation for communication development, she added.

Upholding the incumbent government’s development programs, the PM said that her government has taken 146 new projects in building quality and sustainable infrastructure in past five years.

Among them, 121 new projects, including metro-rail and Dhaka-Chittagong 4-lane highway, are being implemented in this fiscal year.

Construction of 4-lane highway of Joydebpur-Mymensingh and Dhaka-Chittagong will be completed by this year, the premier said adding that Dhaka city dwellers will enjoy the facility of metro-rail by 2019.

She said that 41 bridges have been constructed as a part of her government’s development work.

She further said that 1,266km new roads have been constructed across the country and about 3 thousand roads have made wider and stronger.

The PM said that the construction of 46km elevated expressway from Shahjalal International Airport to Kutubkhali will begin in September this year.

She said that Japan government has given a proposal of constructing a rail-bridge over the river Jamuna.

She assured that Cox’s Bazaar-Moheshkhali road, power plant and LNG treatment plant will also be constructed.
