Khulna patients suffer for doctors’ strike

KHULNA: Patients continued to suffer as doctors in the district carried on their indefinite strike for the third consecutive day on Monday centering an attack and vandalism in Gazi Medical College Hospital.

Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), Khulna private clinic diagnostic owners association and Bangladesh private medical practitioner association are jointly observing the strike.

 Following the strike all types of government, private hospital, clinic, diagnostic centers remained closed which created serious sufferings to patients.   

The demonstrating doctors said that the strike was scheduled to hold 48-hour but it extended from Monday morning as the demands were not met.

Bangladesh Medical Association Central Committee vice-president Dr Sheikh Baharul Alam told banglanews, “As the demands were not met so indefinite strike has began from Monday morning in private and government hospital.”

On July 02, Khulna University student Amit Roy became critically injured in a road accident and then admitted to Gazi Medical College Hospital where relatives of the victim complained that doctor neglect patient.  

Later, Amit died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
