ACC drops Mridha from charge-sheet

DHAKA: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) dropped the name of former General Manager Yusuf Ali Mridha from the charge-sheet of railway recruitment scam and three other cases.

ACC sources said that cutting his name, the anti-graft body, in its regular meeting on Wednesday, approved the submission of the charge sheet in the cases.

PP Mahmudul said Mridha was FIR-named accused in the cases. “But during the investigation, the ACC investigators could not collect proper evidence and proof against him. He was not involved in the recruitment process. He only approved those as his daily official duties,” said ACC stated in each charge-sheet.

On April 9, 2012, Omar Faruq and Yusuf Mridha were held with Tk 70 lakh by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel in front of the main gate of BGB Headquarters in the city.

On April 15, General Manager of Bangladesh Railway (East) Yusuf Ali Mridha and Divisional Commandant Enamul Huq were suspended over the money scandal incident.

Later, Ex-Railways Minister Suranjit Sengupta’s Assistant Personal Secretary (APS) Omar Faruq was sacked in the money scandal.

On April 16, Awami League Leader Suranjit Sengupta resigned as the railways minister following the money scandal.
