DHAKA: A Mirpur Thana Sub-Inspector (SI) Jahidur Rahman has been closed as allegation brought against him for killing a man in custody.

Mirpur Zone additional deputy police commissioner Jashim Uddin confirmed the matter to banglanews on Sunday.

He said that Jahid has been sent to the Rajarbagh Police Lines.

Earlier, a man died in police custody in the morning.

The deceased was identified as Mahbubur Rahman Sujon, 35, son of a late Meser Ali Shikder, hailed from Daida village under Lohajang upazila of Munshiganj district.

Apu Chakladar, cousin of the deceased, told banglanews that Mirpur Thana Sub-Inspector killed Sujon.

He said after detaining Sujon police beat him to death in the thana.

However, police said Sujon died after he felt sick when he was taken to the thana from his Dhanmondi residence with two magazines and 10 round bullets.

Mirpur Thana Officer-in-Charge Salahuddin Ahmed said Sujon was admitted to the Suhrawardy Hospital at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar after he made complaint of respiratory problem, but he could not be saved.

Sujon’s body was kept at Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue.
