DHAKA: Zahidur Rahman, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Mirpur Thana, was arrested from Rajarbagh Police Lines on Wednesday on charge of killing a businessman in custody on July 12.

Officer-in-Charge if Mirpur Thana Salahuddin Ahmed confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Police arrested him after checking the autopsy report of the deceased businessman Mahbubur Rahman Sujon, he added.

Earlier, SI Zahidur Rahman was closed at the police lines after the death of the victim.

On July 12, Mitpur Thana Police held businessman Mahbubur Rahman Sujon from his Dhanmondi residence and recovered two magazines and ten bullets.

Sujon’s cousin Apu Chakladar alleged that after detaining Sujon police beat him to death in the thana.

However, the police department has formed a 3-member probe body, headed by Mirpur Zone additional deputy police commissioner Jashim Uddin, to look into the matter.
