DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Thursday announced for a peaceful movement against the government instead of creating conflicting situations after Eid-ul-Fitr.

“We have not called for war. We have called for a peaceful movement to establish the security, rights and the freedom of speech of the mass people,” she said.

The former premier made the announcement in an Iftar Party, arranged by Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalist (DUJ), at the National Press Club.

She also urged people from all walks of life to join the peaceful demonstration forgetting discriminations and to be united under the banner of 20-party alliance for the sake of the country.

She further said everyone in the country is harmed and insecured. Frustration among the young is rising due to their unemployment.

She also claimed that there is hardly any progressive work is being done in the country.

She termed the government as unelected and held it responsible for the rampant extortion and defiled activities in the country.

She also criticized about poor roads and communicational system of the country.

Khaleda also said that people’s franchise right was disregarded in the January 5 general election.

BFUJ president Shaukat Mahmood presided over the Iftar Party where BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Standing Committee Member Dr RA Gani, Rafiqul Islam Mia, chairperson’s press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel, National Press Club president Kamal Uddin Sabuj, among others, was present there.
