29 BD nationals held in Benapole

BENAPOLE, JESSORE: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel detained 29 Bangladesh nationals, including men, women and children, while crossing the frontier illegally.

They were sent to Benapole Thana.

Members of BGB Battalion-23 and 26 raided Putkhali area, along with few other areas, early Saturday and nabbed the persons who were trying to go to India illegally.

So far, forty-eight Bangladesh nationals were detained on this issue in past three days. But mysteriously, no suspected traffickers or brokers involved in this act were arrested.

Though the detainees were not identified, sources said, they were residents of Jessore, Satkhira, Narail, Khulna, Bagerhat, and Jhenaidah districts.

The numbers of people visiting India illegally via border area have been increased ahead of upcoming Eid festival.

According to the police and local sources, many people usually cross the border illegally for various reasons with the help of brokers.

The BGB members handed over the detainees to police. Cases on illegal border crossing were filed against them. They will be produced before Jessore Court in afternoon.

Benapole Port Thana Police deputy sub-inspector Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
