COX’S BAZAR: Three assistant sub-inspectors (ASI) and a constable of the district Sadar Thana were closed on Sunday over the incident of police firing following a vandalism incident at the thana carried out by Bangladesh Chattra League (BCL).

Another ASI and 10 others constables of the thana were suspended over the incident.

Police Super of the district Azad Mia made the disclosure the matter to banglanews at 2:45am of the day.

The SP said, “Police was given no permission to fire and primary actions has been taken against 14 policemen those are responsible to the firing incident.”

He added: “Necessary steps will be taken after submitting the probe committee’s report.”

Police sources said, “The closed ASIs are Mostafa Kamal, Tazul Islam and Al Amin while the constable is Sazzadul Islam.”

The suspended ASI is Uttam Kumar Dev while the suspended constables are Sujan Kanti Nath, Shamimul Ehsan, Nurul Alam, Abul Kalam Azad, Abdur Rauf, Rasel Bhuyan, Hasan Sharif, Salauddin Mollah, Mithun Dash, and Kamrul Islam.

On Friday, BCL men vandalized the thana, office of traffic police and police barrack over the seizure of a BCL man’s motorbike and police fired gunshots to bring the situation under control.

The incidents left five people including a policeman injured.

On Saturday, district administration formed a probe committee headed by additional district magistrate Abul Hossain over the incident.

However, no legal actions have been taken yet against the BCL men.
