Stamford ex-VC on fresh remand

DHAKA: Dr MA Hannan Firoze, former vice chancellor of Stamford University, was placed on a two-day fresh remand in a case in a case filed for attempting to kill ex-BCL president AKM Enamul Haque Shameem.

After completion of six-day remand, police produced Dr Hannan, trustee broad president of the private university, before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s (CMM) court on Monday with a 10-day fresh remand plea.

Then, the court granted a two-day fresh remand after the hearing.

Earlier on July 16, court ordered a six-day remand for Dr Hannan after arresting him.

According to police sources, some information was collected from the ex-VC in the first round of remand. More days of remand are needed for more information regarding the case.

However, Enamul Haque Shamim, one of directors of Stamford University, was shot in hand in Dhanmondi on June 19. He was first admitted to Bangladesh Medical College Hospital and later sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

On June 20, the following day of the incident, Shamim’s uncle Nasir Uddin filed a case. Later on July 7 and 8, police and RAB conducted several drives and arrested seven people.

Among the arrestees, Rana Hawladar gave a statement in court. In the statement, Rana said Dr Hannan’s involvement to the incident.
