Agora fined for expired cosmetics

CHITTAGONG: A Chittagong mobile court on Monday fined Agora, a reputed chain super shop, for selling date-expired products.

The court also seized a huge amount of goods from Agora’s Afmi Plaza branch at Prabartak intersection of the port city.

Led by executive magistrate Tamim Al Yamin, a team of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institute (BSTI) and Chittagong district administration with the help of police conducted the drive.

Tamim Al Yamin told banglanews that the team found the date-expired goods during the anti-adulteration raid.

He said, “The team seized the date-expired goods and fined Agora Tk 10,000 under the Consumers’ Rights Act.”

The executive magistrate further said that they had also warned the chain super store about selling date-expired products.

However, Rafia Begum, a regular customer of Agora, expressing her doubts, said they usually buy goods from the shop with a high price to get rid of adulteration.

“If things go same here, where do we go?” she asked.
